Liverpool have agreed a deal worth up to €35m with Bayer Leverkusen for defender Jarell Quansah, as per Fabrizio Romano. The deal is worth a guaranteed €30m, plus a further £5m from add-ons. The deal also involves a buy-back clause. That means Reds will be able to take their player back to Anfield at a preset price in the future.
Quansah is showing promise whenever given chance. With Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate already in the team, getting first team starts is very difficult. In addition, head coach Arne Slot is still looking for other top centre-back options.
Targets like Marc Guehi is now on the radar. Quansah’s decision to move could be seen as a smart one for his career. Leverkusen, on their end, view him as a direct replacement for Jonathan Tah. They have moved quickly to wrap up the deal.
Leverkusen Transfer Delayed Due to U21 Euros
The agreement between the two clubs are in place. But, the confirmation could take a little longer. Quansah is currently with England, playing in the U21 European Championship. He has just had a great game against Spain with the sporting director of Leverkusen watching.
England are in the semi-final against the Netherlands. And potentially in the final on Saturday. So, it is reasonable to expect Quansah’s medical and official signing may need to wait until early next week.
Regardless, the Reds will be pleased with this deal to receive a decent fee for a young player with promise. They’ll retain their long term interest via the buy-back clause as well. They can now turn their attention to the names of Guehi, Colwill and Yoro.
