Liverpool have learned Julian Alvarez's position at Atletico Madrid as they look to continue their summer spending.

The Reds might not be done splashing the cash yet and aren't thought to be in danger of breaching profit and sustainability rules. Meaning a new striker could involve further negotiations with Atletico, but this time for ex-Manchester City ace Julian Alvarez.

The Argentine has been rumoured to be heading to Anfield for a while now and his future remains uncertain, despite netting 29 goals in all competitions last season.

Alvarez made the move to the Spanish capital in an initial £65m deal and it's been suggested that a similar fee could tempt him back to the Premier League.

A potential deal could be affected by Atletico reportedly dropping their pursuit of Lucas Digne, and instead turning their attention to Liverpool's Andy Robertson.

Liverpool are eager to recoup funds after splashing out a combined £146m on Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong. Milos Kerkez is expected to add another £45m to their expenditure when the Hungarian international's transfer from Bournemouth is finalised.

The arrival of Kerkez at Anfield has cast doubt over Robertson's future and Atletico's manager Diego Simeone is keen to bring in an experienced left-back this summer. Robertson, 31, has emerged as a potential target and could be available for a mere £5million.

With only one year left on his contract with the Reds, he could leave for free next summer. And Kerkez's anticipated move from Bournemouth could see him take over Robertson's position as Liverpool's first-choice left-back.

The Times reports that Simeone has lost interest in Aston Villa's Digne after learning that the Frenchman would cost £10m. Like Robertson, Digne has only a year left on his contract but is considered a key part of Unai Emery's plans.

Robertson is seen by the La Liga club as a more affordable and achievable target. He could be set to end his seven-year stint on Merseyside, a period that saw him win two Premier Leagues and a Champions League title.

Robertson may be on his way out, along with Jarell Quansah, who looks set to join Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth around £35m.
