**Anthony Elanga is likely to be Newcastle United's main target for the right wing after missing out on Bryan Mbeumo, but a deal for the Nottingham Forest star is likely to be far from easy.**
Nottingham Forest are reluctant to sell Anthony Elanga, and having already rejected a £50 million bid from the Magpies last summer, it's likely that they're going to be looking for more than that this year after Elanga had another good season for the Tricky Trees.
While the Magpies have money to spend this summer, they also have plenty of positions to fill, and if they let anyone leave, they will also need to be replaced, as the idea this summer is to strengthen and add depth to the squad.
Therefore, big purchases like £60 million plus for one player are going to be very unlikely. We may be able to do it for one player, but the rest of the players we need will need to be significantly cheaper.

Newcastle are considering offering Harvey Barnes in a bid to land Anthony Elanga
Nottingham Forest have talked down the idea of a swap deal with Newcastle for Anthony Elanga
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anthony Elanga being such a high priority could be a player that the club feel comfortable spending big on, but over the weekend, it has been suggested that Newcastle would be willing to offer Harvey Barnes in a part exchange.
Signed a couple of summers ago for £39 million, Barnes has often been in the shadow of Anthony Gordon at St James' Park, but that dynamic took a turn towards the end of last season after Gordon picked up a three-match suspension and then an injury which kept him out of the side long enough for Barnes to prove he's more than capable of holding down a place in the first-team.
However, [The Chronicle](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/harvey-barnes-decision-turns-heads-31911382) are reporting that Forest have talked down the idea of a swap deal, more because they don't want to lose Elanga rather than not wanting Barnes.
Should Newcastle offer Harvey Barnes as part of a deal for Anthony Elanga?

WE wouldn't be okay with the idea of swapping Harvey Barnes for Anthony Elanga
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If a suitably big deal is forthcoming from Newcastle, then Forest may change their mind, and as they have been reported as having an interest in Harvey Barnes, offering the former Leicester City winger could certainly tempt them into negotiations.
While we'd like to see Elanga at Newcastle, we wouldn't want it to happen at the expense of another important player. As we said above, we can't be letting players leave and then replacing them on a one-for-one basis when the aim is to add depth to the squad.
Additionally, if Anthony Gordon doesn't get his head on straight this summer, we're going to need Harvey Barnes. The deal doesn't make sense to us.
