Men’s Loan Watch: 2024/25 season round-up

There were 10 men’s senior and academy players out on loan in 2024/25, and we’ve taken a look at how they got on at their respective clubs.

### Fabio Vieira

Back at the club where his career began, Vieira got five goals and give assists in 41 games in all competitions for Porto as they finished third in Primeira Liga.

He featured in their UEFA Europa League group stage matches and has recently been representing the side at the FIFA Club World Cup.

His purple patch came across February and March, when Vieira resisted three goals and one assist in four league matches.

### Albert Sambi Lokonga

Lokonga made 23 appearances for Sevilla in all competitions as they finished 17th in La Liga and reached the round of 32 of the Copa del Rey.

Despite suffering multiple injuries, Lokonga provided two assists and was a frequent starter for the Spanish side.

### Karl Hein

Newly promoted Real Valladolid recruited Hein on loan for their La Liga campaign last season, starting 2024/25 with a clean sheet over Espanyol.

He ultimately couldn’t prevent the club from being relegated back to the second tier, but Hein was regularly between the sticks with 32 appearances in all competitions and five clean sheets, only missing a handful of games with a shoulder injury.

He also remained Estonia’s first-choice goalkeeper at international level.

### Reiss Nelson

In a season plagued by injury, Nelson started 2024/25 with a Fulham debut against West Ham United followed by his first Cottagers goal against Preston North End in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

He scored his first Premier League goal for Fulham in a 3-1 win over Newcastle United, but Nelson missed much of the campaign as Marco Silva’s side finished 11th in the topflight.

### Nuno Tavares

Taveres got off to a flying start with Lazio from an attacking point of view as he provided five assists in his first five matches, going onto create eight goals in nine Serie A appearances.

He was also awarded his first senior international cap when he came on as a substitute in Portugal’s 5-1 win against Poland in the UEFA Nations League, in November 2024.

His move to Lazio became permanent earlier this month.

### Marquinhos

Marquinhos spent the first half of the 2024/25 season on loan at Fluminense in the Brazilian Serie A, before switching to Cruzeiro in January, the club he signed for permanently earlier this month.

He made 29 appearances for Fluminense in all competitions and lifted silverware in Brazil when they won the Recopa Sudamericana against LDU Quito in March 2024.

### Jack Henry-Francis

A brief loan spell at Sligo Rovers saw Henry-Francis feature in the League of Ireland Premier Division until November 2024.

He made a total of 13 appearances for the club, providing one assist before returning to our under-21s setup and featuring regularly in Premier League 2.

Henry-Francis has been on the bench a number of times for Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

### Charles Sagoe Jr

On loan at Shrewsbury Town until January 2025, Sagoe Jr made 13 League One appearances, three in the EFL Trophy, one in the Emirates FA Cup and one in the Carabao Cup.

He also made a handful of appearances for our under-21s in Premier League 2.

### Brian Okonkwo

It was a disappointing season for Hitchin Town, who were relegated from the Southern Premier Central Division by finishing 21st in 2024/25.

As well as his loan spell there, Okonwko featured four times for our under-21s across Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy.

### Maldini Kacurri

Kacurri made three appearances on loan at Bromley as they finished 11th in League Two last season.

As well as playing for our under-21s earlier in the campaign, Kacurri got his first-team breakthrough with his senior debut against Bolton Wanderers in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
