Liverpool secure €60m purchase option on transfer – Reds are covering themselves

Liverpool’s Jarell Quansah is set to complete a move to Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

Last Friday, we covered claims from Germany that Erik ten Hag’s new club have reached a full agreement with Liverpool for €30m plus bonuses. It was also stated the centre-back is expected to carry out medical tests this week.

Bild report the overall fee for the Liverpool defender could rise to €40m including bonuses.

The 22-year-old graduated from the Reds’ academy and will now be leaving Anfield on a permanent transfer. He will sign a five-year contract with the Bundesliga club.

On Sunday, claims from elsewhere stated the English champions have secured a buyback option. Bild back that up and then provide their own updates on this case.

Despite deciding to sell the defender this summer, Liverpool don’t want to lose complete control over him. The Premier League winners will be monitoring his development at his new club.

According to Bild, the buyback clause is set at €60m and this can be exercised during the player’s ‘contract term’. In other words, the option to bring Quansah back to Liverpool is valid for the length of his contract at Bayer Leverkusen.
