The NBA just shook the table once again, on the same day as Game 7 of the Finals, no less. Kevin Durant, one of the game’s most feared scorers, a two-time NBA champion and 15X All-Star, is officially on the move, yet again. This time, he’s heading to the Houston Rockets in a mega trade that’s about to shift the balance of power in the Western Conference.
According to ESPN, the Phoenix Suns are sending Durant to the Rockets in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the number 10 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and five second-round picks. The move becomes official when the new league year kicks off on July 6. At that point, Durant will be able to lock in a two-year extension worth up to $122 million.
Get this, Durant still has one year left on his current contract and is due to collect $54.7 million for the 2025-26 season. Once he lands in Houston, he will join a squad that just finished second in the West. He will be teaming up with All-Star big man Alperen Sengun, along with rising talents like Amen Thompson and Fred VanVleet.
Here’s the thing: Durant may be turning 37 this September, but his game is still elite. Period.
He suited up for 62 games with Phoenix last season and lit it up with averages of 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks. He also knocked down a blistering 43 percent of his threes. Those numbers align with what fans have witnessed throughout his legendary career.
Selected to the All-NBA first team six times, Durant has laced them up for 1,123 games across four franchises: Seattle, Oklahoma City, Golden State, Brooklyn, and Phoenix. His career averages are pure Hall of Fame numbers with 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.1 blocks. He is shooting 39 percent from beyond the arc across that stretch.
Meanwhile, Jalen Green is heading to Phoenix and brings a whole lot of firepower with him. The 23-year-old dropped 21.0 points per game this season while playing in all 82 matchups. Pairing him with Devin Booker gives the Suns one of the most explosive backcourts in the league.
Green was the second overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and has put up 20.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game over 307 appearances.
Dillon Brooks is also part of the deal. The polarizing 29-year-old forward averaged 14.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 75 games this past season. Over his career, he has added 14.2 points, 3.2 boards, and 2.0 assists across 492 games. Brooks was initially selected by Houston in the second round of the 2017 Draft and spent the majority of his career with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Let’s see how this shapes up and if the Suns are the final landing spot for the assets they received for the future Hall of Famer in Durant.
