Arsenal's work in the transfer market this summer is going to prove pivotal when it comes to potentially overhauling Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table. The Reds won the title last term at a canter and they have already strengthened their squad with the additions of Giorgi Mamardashvili, Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz.
Manchester City have also made significant transfer moves over the past two windows to bolster their squad, meaning Arsenal cannot afford to stand still if they have any hope of lifting the league title for the first time since 2004. There is plenty of transfer speculation when it comes to the Gunners, however, as midfielder Martin Zubimendi and strikers Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres are constantly in the headlines.
A new striker is not the only addition Arsenal require in the final third as another wide option is imperative when it comes to upgrading their front three. Bukayo Saka, one of Sesko or Gyokeres and a new left-winger could hand Mikel Arteta a devastating front three for their title challenge.
So far this summer, wingers Nico Williams, Rafael Leao, Noni Madueke and Rodrygo have all been linked with moves to the Emirates Stadium. Given the Gunners look set to spend £55million on Zubimendi and maybe around the £70million mark on either Sesko or Gyokeres, possible player exits could bolster the club's transfer kitty if they are going to splash the cash on a top winger to help take the team to the next level.
As Liverpool have spent £172million this summer and Manchester City £113million, the Gunners will have to do something similar if they are to finish ahead of their title rivals. When it comes to sporting director Andrea Berta raising some extra cash, Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli could potentially hold the key.
According to reports from Bild in Germany, Bayern Munich are discussing whether to make a bid for the Brazilian this summer. Vincent Kompany's side have lost Leroy Sane to Galatasaray on a free transfer and they themselves need a new option to play out wide.
The Bayern boss certainly knows all about Martinelli as he featured for Arsenal in 3-1 and 5-0 wins over Burnley when the Belgian was in charge of the Clarets during the 2023/24 season. Bild also report that Bayern are looking at Luiz Diaz and Cody Gakpo of Liverpool and also Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens after missing out on the signature of Wirtz.
Martinelli is valued at £47million by Transfermarkt and that could be put towards a deal for Real Madrid ace Rodrygo or an alternative player if Bayern Munich do indeed make their move for the Gunners ace. Arsenal would make a huge profit on the 24-year-old if he is to head to the Allianz Arena as he joined from Brazilian club Ituano in 2019 for only £6million.
Martinelli has proved to be a very shrewd acquisition by the football club but inconsistency plagued him last season. He still managed to contribute with ten goals and six assists across his 51 appearances, which in fact was up on the eight goals and five assists he managed the previous campaign.
Martinelli is a player Arsenal can upgrade on, though, as they look to form a formidable front three to shoot them to the league title. A fee around the £50million mark could be a gamechanger for Arsenal if it means they have someone such as Rodrygo or Leao in their front three come the opening weekend of the season at Manchester United.
However, that will all come down to Bayern Munich and whether they want Martinelli to be part of their plans going forward.
