“It’s helped with my personal life at home.” - We Are Citc: Rio’s story

Each month, Manchester City’s Charity, City in the Community (CITC) is spotlighting its work and programmes through the voices and stories of its participants across Manchester.

This month, CITC spoke with Rio, an esports participant who said the course has helped with his anxiety.

In the interview the participant discusses the impact the course has had on his future, as well as the positive impact it’s had on his home life.

He said: “The course has impacted my personal life and my home life. I’ve been able to have much more positive conversations with my family, and it’s given me a productive reason to get out of the house.

“It’s just helped a lot with at home behaviour and just how I am with my anxiety at home.”

The City Esports programme offers an exceptional opportunity for students who are passionate about both esports and education to merge the two as part of their academic journey.

Delivered at Oldham College in partnership with Manchester City, this programme is designed to be fully inclusive, welcoming both male and female participants. It allows students to develop technical skills and gain invaluable insights into the esports industry.

Participants have the opportunity to gain a Level 2 Certificate in Esports after one year and a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Esports if they complete the full two years of the programme.

The objective of the course is to provide students with comprehensive education and training in esports.

The course also aims to develop technical skills, offer industry insight, and prepare students for various careers within the esports world.
