Arsenal pre-season plans take shape with squad to travel to Spain

The majority of the Arsenal squad will start pre-season training at the start of July, with playing then heading to Spain before jetting off the Asia for the summer tour.

The Gunners' last game was against Southampton on May 25 and attention is now on the 2025/26 season. With the transfer window open and the club expected to be extremely busy, Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta are working hard behind the scenes to build a squad capable of challenging on all four fronts.

Apart from Ethan Nwaneri, who is still on international duty with England Under-21s at the European Under-21 Championship, Arsenal's senior stars are expected to report for training in the next two weeks. After standard testing and some time on the grass, the squad will then fly out to La Manga, near Murcia, according to @AFCFixtureNews on X.

Gunners players and staff will spend five days in Spain, although it's believed no public matches will be scheduled. A similar trip happened last summer, with Arteta taking a handful of players to Marbella while others were at EURO 2024.

Confirming a similar trip will again happen this summer earlier this year, Arteta said: "Yeah, the players are demanding it. Nowadays I think it's impossible to have four, five, six weeks on your sunbed, pouring sun cream and just ordering drinks. Six weeks later and go full gas, tour and play 65 games, I think it's impossible. Now they demand themselves to be in the best possible condition.

"We are really lucky because we have boys there that they want to spend the summer with their families and with them, so they want to be together as well, so if they can pick a place that we can do that, we can facilitate that, more than welcome to do that."

The Gunners will then return to north London before jetting off to Singapore for their pre-season tour on July 19, football.london understands. Arsenal will play AC Milan on Wednesday, July 23 and then Newcastle United on Sunday, July 27, with both matches to be played in the 55,000-capacity National Stadium.

Arsenal will then fly to Hong Kong in China where they will play north London rivals Tottenham on Thursday, July 31. The fixture will be played in the recently opened 50,000-capacity Kai Tak Stadium.

With the Gunners' Premier League campaign kicking off against Manchester United on August 17, Arteta's side are expected to play at least one additional game, most likely at Emirates Stadium on the weekend of August 9/10.

There's currently no word on whether the Emirates Cup will return for 2025, although reports emerged over the weekend that a clash against Athletic Club could be on the cards. The 2024 Emirates Cup was not announced until late June last year so it's possible we will hear more in the coming days.
