The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards has offered an update on Newcastle’s pursuit of five reported targets.
Last night saw Atalanta’s Giorgi Scalvini linked via Italian journalist Matteo Moretto, while James Trafford’s name popped up again this morning as Fabrizio Romano confirmed negotiations with Burnley are taking place with a July move in mind.
Responding to this in a new post on X, Edwards has stood up the Scalvini link, insisting Newcastle are admirers of the highly-rated centre-back, believing it’s ‘one to watch’ even if we’re yet to make a serious play for the 21-year-old.
The North-East reporter then added that a deal for Trafford ‘could advance’, hinting at progress on that front, then revealed that the club remain ‘very keen’ to sign Brighton’s Joao Pedro after making a formal approach for the Brazilian last week.
Edwards also stated that we remain interested in signing Marc Guehi, suggesting he is still up for grabs despite Liverpool’s interest, while Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga is a right winger option we ‘still like a lot’, despite that link going quiet over the past fortnight.
Posting on X, he said: ‘#NUFC do indeed like Giorgio Scalvini but no more to it than that at this stage. One to watch perhaps. Had injury problems. James Trafford could advance, still very keen on Pedro. Interest remains in Guehi.
‘Going to type words “nothing imminent” in the hope I reverse jinx it
‘Maybe something will happen this week with clubs in PSR strife needing to deal but we shall see.’
