**Newcastle United are desperate to add a bit of youth to their defensive options this summer, with only Sven Botman on the 'right side' of 30 for the Magpies when it comes to central defensive options.**
The Magpies have two of England's most exciting young full-backs, but Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento, along with Botman, are far younger than the rest of Newcastle's defence, with Dan Burn, Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles and Emil Krafth all over 30.
Newcastle have a strong interest in Marc Guehi, who is 23, and he remains the club's top target for centre-back this summer; however, a report from Italy claims that the Magpies have their eyes on a 21-year-old Italy international.
Italian journalist Matteo Moretto claims Newcastle are now keeping tabs on Atalanta's Giorgio Scalvini.

Atalanta don't want to lose their young star, but the journalist believes that the Magpies could be about to test their resolve with an offer that they may find hard to turndown.
> “I can reveal to you that one of the names that Newcastle have on their list is Giorgio Scalvini, an Italian defender of Atalanta.“Atalanta does not want to lose Scalvini and they consider him a key player for next season. However, we will have to understand whether Newcastle really want to put forward an interesting and important proposal for him or, in short, whether this type of appreciation will stop and nothing more.

As pointed out by Newcastle World, a move for Scalvini comes with risks as the young defender only managed eight appearances for Atalanta last season after suffering an ACL injury and then a shoulder injury.
There's always a chance that these were freak one-off incidents that just so happened to occur in the same season, but we're sure he would be fully assessed before Newcastle pulled the trigger anyway.
No doubt the recruitment team will have reached out to Sandro Tonali to ask about Scalvini, who he will have played alongside for the Italy national side.
