OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (WFSB) - The University of Connecticut celebrated an NBA Championship won by one of its alumni.
The Thunder defeated the Indiana Pacers in game 7 of the NBA Finals on Sunday night to win their first title.
UConn extended congratulations to OKC head coach Mark Daigneault.
Daigneault spent some time as a UConn student manager.
The Leominster, MA native managed the men’s basketball team under former coach Jim Calhoun from 2003-2007.
Daigneault was on the bench when the Huskies won their 2004 NCAA Tournament title.
Since then, he moved on to be an assistant coach at Holy Cross and Florida before landing as the coach of OKC’s G-League team, the Oklahoma City Blue.
He officially became the Thunder’s head coach in 2020.
