Former Manchester City star Shaun Wright-Phillips believes Alexander Isak is a “more complete” striker than Erling Haaland - although Liverpool has been told it already has the best striker in the Premier League.
Isak continues to be linked with a move to Anfield as the Reds weigh up their next transfer priority. Already, Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz’s signatures have been secured, and Milos Kerkez looks set to follow very soon, with the Bournemouth defender flying to Merseyside ahead of his medical on Monday.
There’s every chance Liverpool won’t be done there. Departures are likely to be the next port of call as the Reds look to recoup some money, with Jarell Quansah on his way to Bayer Leverkusen, while the likes of Darwin Nunez, Federico Chiesa and Andy Robertson have all been linked with moves.
But there is scope for Arne Slot and Richard Hughes to make more signings, with a new striker likely to be high up on the shopping list.
Isak has been linked with Liverpool for some time, and with good reason. The Newcastle star finished second in the Premier League’s top scorers during the 2024/25 after bagging 23 goals - one more than Haaland, who had claimed the Golden Boot in each of the previous two seasons.
Both had to concede defeat to Mohamed Salah last season though, with the Egyptian finishing on 29 goals, and Wright Phillips believes the Liverpool talisman is the best around.

“Well, it's Mo Salah, isn't it?” Wright-Phillips said when asked by Prime Casino who the best striker in the Premier League is.
“He's got the golden boots. It's Mo Salah. He’s a wide forward, maybe not a striker, but he’s the top scorer.
“Erling Haaland and Alexander Isak are very different, even though they play the same position.
“Haaland is a goal machine, your goal-getter. Give him the chances and he will work to continuously score you the goals. Isak is more complete, he has all the strings to his bow in terms of a No.9.

“He can dribble, take players on, and he has the skills to make you look silly. He works hard, but he gets the goals as well.”
Liverpool.com says: It is worth making that distinction with Salah when comparing him to Isak and Haaland - he is a winger, no matter how much he might get labeled as a striker, and that just makes his achievements all the more extraordinary.
It also underlines why Isak is seen as the dream signing for Liverpool - just imagine him and Salah in the same front three. Wright-Phillips is right in that it’s not just the goals with Isak, but his all-round game that makes him such a threat.
Chances are Newcastle will try and price Liverpool - or anyone else for that matter - out of a deal, but if there is even a slight chance, the Reds should absolutely make a play for him.
