Crystal Palace followed in the footsteps of Manchester United last season in winning the FA Cup.
Just 12 months after Erik ten Hag defeated Pep Guardiola at Wembley to secure the trophy, Oliver Glasner did likewise to win Crystal Palace a first major trophy, and also secure UEFA Europa League qualification.
The tables have most certainly turned in that respect, as Manchester United could only finish 15th in the Premier League and missed out on European football altogether – a setback which could now see Douglas Luiz move to Selhurst Park instead of Old Trafford.
Crystal Palace favourites to sign Douglas Luiz
Tuttosport in Italy now state that Crystal Palace are currently the ‘most likely’ destination for the Brazil international this summer as he aims to leave Juventus.
The Italian news outlet claim that the Eagles are very interested in Luiz – who Manchester City asked about in January – and Juventus are hoping to receive €25m (£21m) for the South American.
A sale for that amount would represent a major loss for the Old Lady, who signed the Brazilian in a £42m move from Aston Villa as recently as June 2024.
Tuttosport’s update comes after the Daily Mail recently claimed that Manchester United want Luiz as Ruben Amorim attempts to inject some energy into his midfield department, with that area in need of freshening up after Christian Eriksen was released.
Crystal Palace have another midfielder in sight if Douglas Luiz move fails
Tuttosport add that Juventus are optimistically hoping for a bidding war to commence over Luiz, so if Manchester United do end up leapfrogging Crystal Palace, the south Londoners may turn elsewhere.
Crystal Palace have made an approach to sign Andy Diouf from RC Lens – according to Alan Nixon – a talented central midfielder of a similar ilk to Luiz.
Therefore, Glasner is clearly not putting all of his eggs into one basket as he searches for a new central midfielder.
