Alejandro Garnacho could follow in Marcus Rashford’s footsteps to join Aston Villa from Manchester United.

In a similar vein to his United colleague, Garnacho has fallen out of favour with Ruben Amorim and is looking for a move this summer.

Unai Emery is keen to bolster his attacking unit, and could look to repeat his trick of prising away a top talent from the Red Devils and bringing him to the Midlands.

The Villans will hope to convince their Premier League rivals to accept a bid as low as £55million for Garnacho, but could face some resistance.

However, they are unlikely to encounter any such difficulties in persuading the player to join, with his latest impish gesture indicating his intentions.

Garnacho posts a picture of himself in a Rashford Villa shirt

While on holiday in the off-season, Garnacho posted a cheeky picture of himself wearing a Villa shirt with Rashford’s name on the back via Instagram (22 June).

The post was appreciated by the England international, who replied with “My Brother” followed by a heart emoji, but it was not as well received among the United supporters, who were furious at their academy graduate.

Villa fans will likely welcome the hint and hope that it means the Argentine is intent on joining the Claret and Blues, while the club’s hierarchy will hope to use the player’s apparent desire for the move as leverage.

Ex-Villa scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – believes Garnacho’s mischievous post is a subtle attempt to push both clubs to accelerate the deal.

“I’d think there is a strong possibility Garnacho joins Villa,” King said.

“It doesn’t look like Villa are signing Rashford. Therefore, I think that Garnacho would be a good replacement in the squad.

“He was obviously given that shirt by Rashford. I think that is him just being a bit mischievous. He’s probably thinking it might give Villa and United a push to get a deal done.”

Garnacho’s attitude could be a red flag

It would be sensationalist to assume that one suggestive post on social media proves that Garnacho is a bad character, but it is not in isolation.

Amorim left the 20-year-old out of matchday squads for reportedly turning up late to training, and was on the end of choice words from the forward after leaving him out of the starting lineup in the UEFA Europa League final.

The Argentina international’s demeanour on the pitch has not always been exemplary, including his unwillingness to contribute defensively in some games.

While Emery has a reputation for being able to tame large characters in a dressing room and could maximise Garnacho’s excellent talents, he will likely have to counter-balance his assessment with those potential red flags.
