Nat Phillips sent classy Derby County message as he undergoes medical

Nat Phillips was excellent for Derby County at Leeds United.

Message... Rams loan hero Nat Phillips is heading to West Brom.

Nat Phillips has undergone his medical with West Brom as the former Derby County defender closes in on his Liverpool exit.

Albion are close to sealing the centre-back's signature in what will be head coach Ryan Mason's first signing since taking over in the dugout.

Phillips, on a reported £65,000 a week at Liverpool, had one year remaining on his contract at Anfield, but was firmly down the pecking order under head coach Arne Slot.

The 28-year-old enjoyed huge success at Derby last season when he produced a series of impressive display as the Rams fended off relegation.

He scored a pivotal goal in the 1-0 win at Hull City towards the end of the campaign - a strike that was crucial to Derby staying in the Championship.

As such he will be remembered fondly for his contribution judging by the comments on DerbyshireLive from supporters.

Here's what they had to say as the news emerged that he would be heading for their Championship rivals.

Monet1001: "Farewell. In all senses. That Hull goal is and will remain a Derby classic. Thanks Nat. See you at PP soon."

ThePekingHomunculus: "I think with Langas and Clarke recently signed and Nelson on the way back, we were never going to break the bank for Phillips. We have a more pressing need in other positions."

MKRam: "This one boils down to money. Not in a greed sense, but in that the drop from what he was on to what we could realistically offer was always likely to be too great. Nat did well for us. He was pivotal in helping keep us up when all looked lost. His spell was a success, and I thank him for that. I'll certainly applaud his name whenever he lines up against us in the future."

Top2: "Thanks for Hull away, it was brilliant. Remember that game in years to come."

Grabbags: "WBA were able to pay the full £69,000 a week wage for their loan from Everton, Mason Holgate. We paid around a third for Phillips. They were paying Lewis Dobbin £23,000 a week from Aston Villa. Their wage bill is nearly twice ours. Players we have been linked with from them have been John Swift, Grady Diangana and Karlan Grant – all getting more than our top earner is. We cannot be linked with players like Phillips because there is going to be a £2m-£3m transfer fee on top and a three-year contract. Similar with Craig Dawson, huge wages. We fish in a different pond, and that is a good thing."
