17 Man City stars 'facing axe this summer' as Pep Guardiola eyes biggest overhaul in club's history

17 Manchester City stars are 'facing the axe this summer' as Pep Guardiola eyes his biggest overhaul since taking charge.

Guardiola's Man City are currently in the United States for the Club World Cup.

The Blues have won their opening two games of the competition, beating Wydad AC and Al Ain.

The club's biggest stars are out in America, including Erling Haaland, not to mention summer signings Rayan Ait-Nouri, Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki.

But Guardiola left several high-profile players out of his touring party.

Kyle Walker, Kalvin Phillips and Jack Grealish were excluded from Man City's 27-man squad for the Club World Cup.

And, naturally, the trio are thought to be on the chopping block.

Odds have slashed on Grealish's next club as his future lies away from the Etihad, while Walker and Phillips are also expected to move on.

Ilkay Gundogan is the latest star to be linked with a move away from Man City despite the midfielder starting his side's 6-0 victory over Al Ain.

Turkish giants Galatasaray are interested in signing the 34-year-old this summer.

On reports linking Gundogan with a summer switch and the size of his current squad, Guardiola said: "With Ilkay, no news is good news. I don’t know anything and I didn’t speak with him.

"But at the same time we have - right now - a long squad, too many players. We cannot go with 26, 27 players this season because there would be more not playing.

"Step by step maybe a few players are going to move."

James McAtee, who is with England for the under-21 Euros, and Maximo Perrone are also heading for the exit door, according to The Sun.

Plenty of other Man City players are believed to be available to free up space in the squad.

Per the report, the futures of Ederson, John Stones, Rico Lewis, Vitor Reis, Abdukodir Khusanov, Nico O’Reilly, Mateo Kovacic, Gundogan, Nico Gonzalez, Matheus Nunes, Claudio Echeverri and Oscar Bobb are not yet set in stone.

Most will be kept, but some will go either permanently or on loan.
