Liverpool are evaluating all options as they plot an important addition to their centre-back ranks, sources close to the club have told Football Insider.

Marc Guehi is towards the top of the list as he enters the final 12 months of his contract with Crystal Palace, but it is believed a number of other options are under consideration.

Liverpool have decided to sign a marquee new centre-back amid uncertainty over the future of Ibrahima Konate, while Virgil van Dijk is entering the twilight years of his career.

Football Insider revealed last week (18 June) that the Reds are “slightly concerned” about Real Madrid’s interest in the France centre-back – who has just 12 months left on his deal.

Quansah sale boosts Liverpool’s defender budget

Liverpool’s centre-back budget has been boosted greatly after agreeing the £35million sale of Jarell Quansah to Erik ten Hag’s Bayer Leverkusen.

Guehi has been on the radar a long time and Crystal Palace are aware this summer’s window could be the final chance for them to cash in before he agrees a free transfer exit.

The FA Cup winner ticks a lot of boxes for Liverpool transfer chiefs due to his extensive Premier League and international experience – as well as his age profile at just 24 years old.

He has been the subject of interest from Newcastle and Tottenham in recent windows, with both clubs previously submitting bids.

Guehi joined Palace from Chelsea in 2021 and has made 115 appearances for the Selhurst Park club – and is now a 23-cap England international.

Gomez makes decision on Liverpool exit

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (23 June) that Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is happy at Anfield amid links with newly-promoted Leeds United and Sunderland.

It is believed the versatile 28-year-old still has a role to play under Arne Slot on Merseyside following Quansah’s exit.

Sources say Gomez is in no rush to quit Liverpool and will be keen to stay fit and available for the 2025-26 campaign.
