Newcastle and Burnley are holding direct talks about goalkeeper James Trafford, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Writing on his X account, Romano has confirmed that discussions “are underway”, although it is felt that negotiations may only ramp up when we get closer to July.
This could potentially be related to PSR, with the new accounting year giving the Magpies greater room for manoeuvre in terms of spending.

Trafford is not expected to be available on the cheap following an excellent season for Burnley in the Championship, where he kept 29 clean sheets.
How much will Newcastle need to pay?
It is believed that Burnley have set an asking price in the region of £40m, which is £10m higher than what they demanded last year.
Eddie Howe’s side did table a bid of around £16m when they first approached the Clarets for Trafford 12 months ago but it looks like they may have to pay considerably more if they want him now.
There is competition for Trafford
The 22-year-old’s impressive performances have also attracted the attention of other Premier League clubs. Chelsea are on the lookout for a new No.1. They have already explored a move for AC Milan’s Mike Maignan but negotiations for the France No.1 collapsed after the two sides failed to agree a fee. The Blues could potentially switch targets to compete with the Magpies.
Trafford’s former team, Manchester City, have been tentatively linked in recent months too. Pep Guardiola’s side don’t have a buyback clause on the keeper, but they could enter the running if they are seeking a replacement for Ederson.
The Brazilian international is set to leave the Etihad following the conclusion of the Club World Cup, with many tipping him to make the move to Saudi Arabia.
