Celtic winger linked with move to Newcastle United edging closer to move back home

Newcastle United have been linked with an interest in Celtic star Nicolas Kuhn on several occasions before the start of the summer window.

Leading up to the summer, the Magpies were reportedly keen on the German winger from the Scottish champions, but since the window opened, there has been very little mention of Nicolas Kuhn and Newcastle.

The 25-year-old had a fantastic start to the season with the Bhoys, scoring five goals and providing six assists in Celtic's first 13 league games.

Despite his strike rate dropping, Kuhn still finished last season with 21 goals and 15 assists in 51 appearances, playing mostly wide right.

Nicolas Kuhn is heading back to Leipzig

Nicolas Kuhn looks set to return to RB Leipzig

Nicolas Kuhn went on a run of eight games without scoring, and Chris Sutton believed that he'd 'blotted his copybook' with that mini drought, but we still feel his numbers were impressive.

It does seem that Sutton may have been right, given how quickly the talk of Newcastle's interest in the German disappeared, but that's not stopped other clubs from weighing up a move.

Indeed, Kicker (via Fussball Transfers) claims that Nicolas Kuhn could be heading back to RB Leipzig, where he spent time coming through the ranks, as talks hit an 'advanced stage'.

Would Nicholas Kuhn have cut it in the English Premier League?

As impressive as Nicolas Kuhn's numbers were last season, we can't shake the 'It's just Scottish football' feeling, but he did get three goals and an assist in 10 Champions League games, too.

It looks like it's too late for Newcastle anyway, but to be honest, given how quiet it has all been on the Celtic star, we doubt it was ever really a goer anyway.

While this is another 'one that got away' story, it does feel as though things are starting to move in the right direction this week already.
