There’s a claim in the Turkish media that Fenerbahce are getting closer to a potential deal for Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho.
The former England international was loaned out to Chelsea last summer and even though there was a near-obligation to buy the player for £25m, the west London club were prepared to pay a £5m penalty to send him back to Old Trafford.
Turkish journalist Murat Zorlu has spoken on Fenerbahce’s pursuit for the Manchester United owned player, and he says the Istanbul side are taking positive steps towards getting a deal over the line for the 25-year-old.
“As far as I know, there has been serious progress with Jadon Sancho. He’s the one that’s moving forward right now,” said Zorlu.
Fenerbahce have been linked with Sancho since May when it was reported Jose Mourinho had given his approval to sign the winger. With Allan Saint-Maximin returning to his parent club Al-Ahli after his season long loan spell in Istanbul, Mourinho needs to bring in a replacement.
However, the stumbling block is likely to be Sancho’s wages and matching what he currently earns. What could help in that regard is far lower tax in Turkey for footballers, where they pay 20% as opposed to more than double that in the UK.
That’s what allowed Galatasaray to sign big names like Victor Osimhen.
Sancho made 39 appearances whilst out on loan Chelsea last season, scoring just four goals.
