Florian Wirtz’s move to Liverpool drew a heartfelt message from former Leverkusen teammate Jonathan Tah.
Florian Wirtz’s high-profile transfer to Liverpool has sparked plenty of reactions, but few as personal as the one from former Bayer Leverkusen teammate Jonathan Tah.
The duo shared five seasons together, becoming pillars of Leverkusen’s resurgence.
Now, both have left the club in the same summer — Wirtz joining Liverpool as their biggest signing in club history, and Tah made a free transfer to Bayern Munich.
Sharing a heartfelt message on his Instagram story, Tah wrote:
“My Gova, it was an honor to fight alongside you for every victory on the pitch for five years. You’ve also grown close to my heart off the pitch. That’s why I wish you health, success & fun at your new club. We’ll see each other at the DFB and maybe one day play against each other on the pitch.”
Their bond extended well beyond matchdays, and Tah’s message reflects the emotional weight of parting after years of shared battles in the Bundesliga.

Florian Wirtz and Jonathan Tah left Leverkusen in the same transfer window
Wirtz’s move to Anfield comes with high expectations. The German playmaker signed a long-term deal that ties him to Anfield until June 2030.
Known for his vision, composure, and creativity, the 22-year-old is expected to play a key role in Slot’s team.
Tah’s move to Bayern Munich marks the end of an era for Leverkusen, as the 29-year-old long-serving defender departs alongside Wirtz.
Now playing in different leagues, the only chance the former teammates could face each other would be in the Champions League.
Until then, their next reunion is most likely to come in German colours during international duty.
