Report: Arsenal now eyeing move to sign 'one of Europe's most talented right-backs'

Arsenal are eyeing a summer move for talented Porto defender Martim Fernandes, journalist Rudy Galetti has revealed.

The Gunners have reportedly been keeping a close eye on the 19-year-old right-back’s performances at the Club World Cup, where his strong displays have put several European clubs on alert.

Napoli, Bayer Leverkusen and Manchester City are also believed to be interested in Fernandes and closely monitored his development last season.

Arsenal reportedly view the 19-year-old as a player with great potential and a bright future, but face a difficult round of negotiations with Porto if they decide to step up their interest, as Fernandes is under contract until June 2028.

According to Galetti, Porto are well aware of the growing interest in Fernandes, who remains focused on performing well at the Club World Cup in the United States this month.

It remains to be seen whether the 19-year-old would consider a move after the tournament, with several major clubs reportedly planning moves for the Portuguese defender.

Fernandes, praised as ‘one of the most talented right-backs in Europe’, enjoyed a breakout 2024/25 campaign with Porto, making 34 appearances across all competitions and registering six assists.

The Portuguese defender made his senior debut for Porto in October 2023 and has since amassed 42 first-team appearances, including five in last season’s Europa League campaign.

Arsenal are close to announcing Martin Zubimendi as their first summer signing and have recently received a boost in their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres.

According to reports, the Sweden international has already informed family and friends that he expects to complete a move to the Emirates this summer, despite strong interest from Manchester United and his former manager Ruben Amorim.
