Manchester United officially confirm start date for pre-season

Manchester United’s players have been enjoying a much-needed summer break following a turbulent 2024/25 campaign that ended on a high.

Ruben Amorim’s side wrapped up the season with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford, before heading to Asia for two friendlies in Malaysia and Hong Kong.

Their final match, a 3-1 win over Hong Kong, China on 30 May, marked the last competitive action before the squad was given time off to recharge and reset ahead of the new era under Amorim.

With the Premier League fixture list for the new season now released — and a mouth-watering opening clash against Arsenal on the cards — anticipation is already building.

Now, the countdown is officially on for Manchester United’s return to training, with players expected back at Carrington during the week commencing Monday 7 July, as United officially announced on the club website.

The state-of-the-art training ground, currently undergoing the final stages of a £50 million upgrade, will be the base for pre-season preparations as Amorim’s squad gears up for a crucial campaign.

The first official friendly of the summer will take place on 19 July, when United face Leeds United in Stockholm.

The clash will offer the squad a valuable opportunity to regain match fitness before the main pre-season tour kicks off.

Matheus Cunha, who joined United from Wolves in a £62.5 million deal, is expected to feature and begin integrating with his new teammates as Amorim shapes his attacking plans.

Meanwhile, veteran players Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof, and Christian Eriksen have bid farewell to the club following the end of the season.

Their departures make room for younger talent and fresh additions to step forward.

The upcoming weeks will be critical in setting the tone for the new season, as Amorim looks to instil his philosophy and restore United’s competitive edge.

With new signings incoming, a revamped Carrington, and a fresh tactical identity, fans will be hoping this summer marks the true beginning of a new era at Old Trafford.
