Darwin Nunez’s turbulent three-year stint at Liverpool is set to come to an end this summer, with the Uruguayan striker having already given his approval to leave the Premier League champions.

The 25-year-old forward, who became Liverpool’s record signing when he joined from Benfica in 2022, has fallen out of favor under manager Arne Slot and is now actively seeking a new challenge.

Napoli are believed to be the most advanced for the Uruguayan, and they believe they will be able to get the 25-year-old at a discounted price.

Antonio Conte’s men believe that they can get Nunez can get for around €50m (£42m).

The striker’s contract runs until 2028, giving Liverpool a strong negotiating position despite his reduced playing time

However, the club appears willing to accept a financial loss on their investment rather than retain an asset that is going to depreciate as time goes on.

Nunez has found himself increasingly marginalized, starting just 17 matches across all competitions during the 2024-25 season.

The striker managed only eight Premier League starts, a dramatic reduction from his previous involvement under Jurgen Klopp

And with only five Premier League goals across this term, it’s safe to say that his time is coming to an end.

Now Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Nunez has given his green light to join the Naples side.

“Understand Darwin Nunez has given his initial green light to Napoli, open to the move after being presented Conte’s project,” the Italian wrote on X.

“After the contacts that took place over the weekend between Darwin Nunez and Napoli, there is a total openness and strong appreciation from the player towards Napoli project, towards Conte and now he is fully open to the idea of joining Napoli.”

“Deal now depends on financial feasibility as Liverpool want important transfer fee and salary will also be key topic.”
