'They are looking': Club really want to sign 'excellent' Wolves player for a second time - journalist

Hugo Bueno’s immediate future will be a very interesting situation this summer.

The Spaniard has just finished up a loan spell with Feyenoord, for whom he made 30 appearances in total.

Hugo Bueno had played second fiddle to Rayan Ait-Nouri in the 2023/24 season, so it was important for him to get regular minutes in the Netherlands.

And he managed to do that by and large, although he did pick up a couple of injuries.

Ait-Nouri has now been sold by Wolves, of course. And that means a decision will be taken on Bueno.

Vitor Pereira is excited to look at Bueno in pre-season, as he determines how best to replace the output lost with Ait-Nouri.

But there may well be some temptation for Bueno to play his football elsewhere next term.

Bueno will now return to Wolves as a matter of protocol.

His loan move is over, and he is due back at Compton for pre-season, and there will also be talks about the next step for him.

Ultimately, Pereira will decide if Bueno shall be the player to play regularly at left wing-back. Dave Edwards feels Bueno would be an ‘excellent’ option to succeed Ait-Nouri, but it remains to be seen if the Wolves manager will feel the same way.

Should the Portuguese not deem him ready though, then Feyenoord would certainly love to have him back – either on a temporary or permanent basis.

Journalist Mikos Gouka told the AD Football Podcast: “Feyenoord will look at that. Robin van Persie is a fan and Bueno is having a good time.

“So they are looking at whether they can rent him for another year, but also whether they can buy him. Feyenoord is of course not going to put down all the transfer money of Quilindschy Hartman just like that, but the question is how much Wolves still want him to come back.”

Gouka goes on to suggest that Wolves would likely make more money on Bueno by selling to another English club, suggesting Feyenoord would not be offering a huge amount in any permanent bid.

What Robin van Persie has said about Wolves defender Hugo Bueno

So Feyenoord are keen to have Bueno back, and this should probably come as no surprise, with Robin van Persie having sang his praises a couple of times.

Van Persie recently hailed Bueno’s mindset, suggesting that he was the kind of player any coach would love to work with.

He said: “He has really good intensity in everything he does.

“He gives absolutely 100% every single training session, every single game.

“He is one of those players who is always in my mind. Like OK, I know that I can count on him. He just always gives 100% and he has a really good drive forward – he can be important in our attacking way of playing, and of course the defensive part is really good.

“It’s like he breathes football and he just wants to improve and that, from a coach’s point of view, really nice to work with. When you have that mindset, it is really easy to work with a player.”

Prior to this, van Persie had confirmed Wolves would look into signing Bueno again.
