The Cleveland Browns selected Colorado star quarterback Shedeur Sanders with the 144th overall pick in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. But his career is not exactly off to the best of starts.
The rookie field general got pulled over for speeding in the early morning of June 17, as he was going 41 miles per hour over the posted speed limit of 60. But in a recent episode of Nightcap, Cincinnati Bengals legendary receiver Chad Johnson advocated for Sanders.
"Obviously, you’re not supposed to speed based on whatever the speed limit may be," Johnson said. "I think you just have to be a little more cautious. I think we’ve all sped at some point, we’ve all been pulled over for a ticket at some point... His decision not to drive anymore or have a driver or have an Uber, whatever it may be... is a step in the right direction to make sure you don’t make that mistake again. Or, you drive like I do and never go over 60 miles an hour."
Ochocinco was pulled over for illegal window tint and driving with a suspended license later in his NFL career, so he knows a thing or two about what it takes to stay out of trouble on the roads.
Sanders has a large opportunity in his rookie season with the Browns, as the team is not entirely sure which of their five quarterbacks is the definitive starter. As a result, the 23-year-old quarterback could take the title if he makes the most of his opportunities.
If he can figure it out and stay out of trouble, then he could be poised for a big rookie season.
