Toasty: Chelsea players struggle to keep cool at the Club World Cup
Chelsea Football Newsletter
Chelsea have been battling the American summer heat ever since they turned up for the competition, and players appeared to struggle with the conditions in Friday’s 3-1 defeat to Flamengo.
They trained on Monday morning (local time) in 34-degree conditions, with the length of the session shortened to combat exhaustion.
On Wednesday, they face Tunisian side ES Tunis in their final Group D match, aware that defeat will see them eliminated from the competition.
“It’s almost impossible to train, to make sessions because of the weather. We are just trying to save our energy for the game.
“It's not easy with these conditions, but we are going to try to do our best."
Maresca added: “It's the reality. It's difficult to work with these temperatures. But we are here, and we will try to win tomorrow's game.”

Nicolas Jackson was sent off against Flamengo and is suspended against ES Tunis. Maresca confirmed he did not join that main group in training on Monday.
“Nico was not in the session because it's the day before the game,” he said. “We just use the ones to prepare the game.”
