Liverpool’s line up for the first game of the 2025/26 Premier League season could look quite different to the side that lifted the trophy in May.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has already departed Anfield since the end of last season, while both Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz have arrived from German side Bayer Leverkusen.
Arne Slot could still look to add yet more signings to his squad before they begin the defence of their Premier League title in August, but in the meantime it has emerged that one member of his current squad could soon be on his way out of Merseyside.
As per Fabrizio Romano, forward Darwin Nunez has given the initial green light to a proposed move to Serie A champions Napoli.
The Italian journalist claims that the Uruguay international has initially agreed to the potential move, having been presented the club’s project by manager Antonio Conte.

The two clubs will now attempt to reach an agreement, Romano claims, however the Reds are set to demand a signifiant fee for the 25-year-old.
Nunez joined the Reds from Portuguese giants Benfica in 2023 but has struggled for consistency since arriving in England.
In total he has played 143 times for Liverpool across all competitions, scoring 40 goals and registering 26 assists.
The Uruguayan started just eight of Liverpool’s 38 Premier League games last term, and it appears that he is therefore open to the prospect of leaving Anfield this summer.
Romano claims that the player’s salary is also set to be a potential obstacle in the way of an agreement, with it unclear whether or not Napoli could afford the forward’s current wages.
The forward is currently under contract until 2028.
