'He's not going to be tied down': Steve Parish sent warning over Marc Guehi amid Newcastle…

· 23 June 2025, 19:30

**Newcastle United are reportedly willing to try again to negotiate with Steve Parish and Crystal Palace over a move for Marc Guehi.**

Last year, Steve Parish strung Newcastle along with negotiations around a potential move for Marc Guehi, and it seemed like every time the deal got close, Crystal Palace would move the goalposts before forcing Newcastle to walk away from negotiations late in the summer window.

Since then, Marc Guehi has guided Crystal Palace to lifting the FA Cup, their first ever major honour, so it would be harsh to suggest that Parish's tactics didn't work.

However, with just 12 months left on his contract, a Marc Guehi exit looks almost inevitable now, especially with reported interest from Liverpool as well as Newcastle.

Simon Jordan urges Crystal Palace to sell Marc Guehi this summer rather than lose him for free in 12 months

Now, former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has urged his former club to sell the defender this summer or risk losing out on a decent payday.

> "You're not going to tie him down, are you? Get nothing for him? That's the choice?"They took the roll of the dice last year. They didn't take Newcastle's money in so far as Newcastle really offered it and it was on the nail.

> "Now they are against the clock so what do you get? Nothing then you have got to buy a centre-back? You might as well sell him. Glasner won't be thrilled with that unless you can tie him down, but he's not going to be tied down, is he?"

Jarell Quansah has been sold by Liverpool, leaving space for Marc Guehi

While the conversation was framed by the narrative of Marc Guehi joining Liverpool, it's still a big message sent to Steve Parish that just because Guehi is happy to run down his contract and have another year at Palace, it's not ultimately what's best for the club.

Crystal Palace aren't going to get the alleged £70 million Newcastle were prepared to offer last year for a player who only has one year left on his deal, but they could still get £40 million, maybe even more if a bidding war breaks out, and that money can go on finding a replacement. If they wait a year, they have to find that money from elsewhere to replace him.

We don't see Marc Guehi being at Palace next season, but we're not sure we see him at Newcastle either, now that Jarell Quansah has been sold by Liverpool - that could be the door open for a move for Guehi now.
