Alejandro Garnacho wasted no time in causing more controversy online when he donned an Aston Villa shirt with Marcus Rashford on the back.
The post came after the English striker came out and said he’d love to play with Barcelona striker Lamine Yamal.
One photo has sent the Man Utd fan base into a tizzy, but let’s be real, we know exactly what the Argentinian was doing.
It isn’t the first time Garnacho has used social media or the press to create a scene. There was the poorly timed post-match interview after the Europa League final where he complained of playing just 20 minutes in the final.
Even if he had a point, there is a time and place.
It tends to be the case that for far too many years, these incidents seem to occur at Old Trafford all the time.
Public fallouts, players clearly batting their eye lashes at other clubs.
It has happened far too many times now and the common denominator is Manchester United.
Perhaps the players are paid too much too early, perhaps the club is rotten to the core but whatever is going on has not been dealt with because these problems come up off the pitch every season.
It effects the dressing room and once again draws the ire of a fanbase already on the edge.
Garnacho is a 20 year old who has seen quite a lot of minutes since coming into the side. Anyone who is 20 is extremely young, throw in the fact he is on wages most people his age can only dream of and it becomes difficult to manage footballers and their temperament.
This isn’t to say what he’s done is the worst thing in the world either. It’s simply the fact he’s posted a picture online in support of another team mate in Rashford who has had a public fallout with the club and new manager.
Irrespective of where they go (as it seems likely that they won’t be with the club in the near future) the Red Devils should move on and not look back.
Rejuvenating the team and signing players is great, getting rid of players that don’t want to be there is just as important.
There is also the fact the situations of Jadon Sancho and Antony need to be resolved with Sancho transfer at Chelsea failing.
It’s remarkable to think Antony was the outcast to make the most of his time away from Manchester and is probably the player that has the best chance of appearing again under Ruben Amorim.
Whatever you think of the situations for each player, it feels as though a statement needs to be made this summer. One of out with the old and in with the new.
Pep Guardiola let Joao Cancelo go despite him helping to revolutionise the full-back role at Manchester City, he also wasn’t afraid to let a talent like Cole Palmer go and additionally, the first move Guardiola made when coming into City was quickly recognising Joe Hart wasn’t the keeper for him.
Even when he got it wrong shortly after as Claudio Bravo failed to set in, he was bold with his choices
Manchester United have to follow suit and not look back.
By that I mean, if Garnacho is good elsewhere? Let him be.
If Rashford goes on to find consistent form away from Old Trafford? Let him.
The same mantra should be applied to if Sancho and Antony leave too. Go all in on a new era, as it feels as though the weight from Ten Hag’s is being shed anyways.
Out of players who played under him regularly apart from Bruno Fernandes, you can’t say another player is going to likely feature for Amorim.
This is his vision and new team.
The pieces from last season’s dreadful and heart breaking end need to be picked up and results are an absolute must or he will come in for huge criticism.
But in order for United to go all in on Amorim and back him as the man, they must be content with players he doesn’t want either, even if things go wrong.
