Manchester United aren't down and out of the race to sign Napoli star Victor Osimhen just yet, according to reports - with the club still keen on bringing in the proven talisman to help their chances of qualifying for European football next season after a horror show this time around.
Osimhen has been in fine form for the past half-decade, helping Napoli win the 2022/23 Serie A with 26 league goals to his name, as well as impressing in Turkey after a move to Chelsea broke down last summer. It's an ambitious move, but United could still complete a deal with the club thought to be in the running for his signature.

The report by Footmercato journalist Sebastien Vidal states that United are still in the running to sign Osimhen this summer, despite interest from elsewhere.

It's thought that Liverpool are preparing a move for the Nigerian after finding their bid to land Alexander Isak extremely tough, with Arne Slot wanting a new talisman to defend their Premier League title - and Napoli are listening to any offers but want more than what the Reds are offering for the star who is described by Vidal as an 'elite No.9'.
And that has opened the running for United, with Vidal stating that a 'big showdown is coming' for the Napoli striker, who excelled on loan at Galatasaray last season with 37 goals in 41 games as they won the Turkish Super Lig.
United have been in the market for a striker for the best part of a year following Rasmus Hojlund's downfalls in front of goal this season, and with strike partner Joshua Zirkzee also failing to pull up many trees at Old Trafford, the need for a new talisman has become crucial.
Matheus Cunha has been signed to somewhat help with that, though he'll likely be used behind the striker by Ruben Amorim, and with a move for Bryan Mbeumo still in the fire, the trio could help United become a force to be reckoned with heading into next season if they can fire on all cylinders. There will be no European football at Old Trafford next season and that will further help their standing in the Premier League.
