Nicolas Jackson dropped another disappointing performance against Flamengo, receiving a straight red card for an unnecessary challenge just four minutes after coming on in the second half. This incident has once again raised serious questions about the Senegal international's long-term future at Stamford Bridge.
Following an underwhelming season from Jackson, who served as the Blues' primary striker last campaign, the club brought in a new number nine in the form of Liam Delap during the special transfer window before the Club World Cup. Initially, it was speculated that the Senegalese forward would compete for the starting spot with the Englishman.
However, Jackson’s unconvincing form and repeated poor decision-making might have prompted the club to look for another striker. Chelsea have already been linked with a number of top names for the role, including Hugo Ekitike, Viktor Gyokeres, and Victor Osimhen, to name a few.
Another name that has emerged is Randal Kolo Muani. Chelsea have recently entered the race to sign the Paris Saint-Germain striker, who is on loan at Juventus. However, reports have emerged suggesting that the Blues could likely miss out on the French international.
Chelsea might miss out on Kolo Muani due to his preference to stay at Juventus
According to TBR Football, Graeme Bailey has revealed that Kolo Muani prefers to remain at Juventus. He said:
"Kolo Muani wants to stay in Italy – that is the word coming from his people at this point, even with the approach from Chelsea and interest from elsewhere.
“I am told he knows Dusan Vlahovic is going, so he is likely to be the main man in Turin and that appeals to him."
Kolo Muani moved from Eintracht Frankfurt to PSG for £76 million but failed to make a significant impact in the French capital, scoring just six goals in Ligue 1 in his debut season. He was sent on loan to Juventus in January this year. The Frenchman has enjoyed life in Turin, scoring 10 goals in 20 appearances and seems keen to extend his stay.
However, Juventus are reportedly seeking another loan deal, while PSG prefer a permanent exit. Premier League sides like Manchester United and Aston Villa have also been approached in an effort to facilitate a transfer.
In case another deal for a loan move to Juventus falls through, Chelsea's chances of signing Kolo Muani would be boosted. For now, the Blues will have to monitor the situation closely and remain ready to act if the Frenchman becomes available.
