Ruben Amorim could see major benefits in the 2025-26 Premier League season at Old Trafford if one first-team Manchester United player’s ‘true role’ is fully ‘unlocked.’
The 40-year-old Manchester United manager is set to return to the dugout soon for the Red Devils’ pre-season campaign in July and August ahead of the new season.
The Red Devils signed off their lacklustre 2024-25 season at Old Trafford in May, with United ending their shocking campaign in 15th place in the Premier League.
United took part in a post-season tour of Asia in the aftermath of the Premier League campaign and played two matches before the summer transfer window opened.
The Red Devils will play in five matches for their pre-season campaign and will be heading to both Europe and the United States for their friendly matches.
United’s Premier League fixture list was revealed last week and the Red Devils learned their opening match of the new season will be against Arsenal in August.

Lisandro Martinez’s ‘role’ for Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim is needed more next season after an injury-hit 2024-25 campaign
Lisandro Martinez missed the second half of the 2024-25 Premier League season after he suffered a cruciate ligament injury back at Old Trafford in February.
The 27-year-old Argentine centre-back has not played for the Red Devils since he was taken off on a stretcher in United’s 2-0 Premier League loss to Crystal Palace.
Lisandro Martinez underwent surgery four months ago on the injury and the United defender’s rehabilitation has been progressing since his setback last season.
The 2022 World Cup winner has been put on his own individual programme in the summer and Martinez is working to return to full fitness for the Red Devils.
Martinez is expected to be back for United next season, but it is believed that the Red Devils are easing his return after he was sidelined in early 2025.
The former Ajax star is a key defensive figure for Amorim’s tactical system at United and his absence from the first team has been more than visible last season.
However, Martinez has another important role for United manager Amorim and the Red Devils defender could show a lot more in it if he remains fit next season.

Why Lisandro Martinez’s role as vice-captain for Man Utd could play a key part in supporting Ruben Amorim next season
Lisandro Martinez was elevated to the United vice-captaincy in 2024 under former Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag, who was axed by the club last season.
Erik ten Hag managed Martinez at Ajax and the Argentina international had already been tipped as a future United captain in the making after his arrival at Old Trafford.
Not only has Martinez impressed with his ball-playing ability as a versatile centre-back, but the former Ajax ace is widely admired for his leadership qualities.
Martinez has been an important voice as the left-sided centre-back in the three-man backline for Amorim’s formation and his role as vice-captain is well deserved.
The Red Devils centre-back even captained the Premier League club for the first time in United’s 1-1 Europa League draw against Fenerbahce in Turkey last season.
Martinez’s captaincy qualities show he can lead when Bruno Fernandes is absent, allowing Amorim the opportunity to rotate the Portugal star’s engine next season.
