Everton will be aiming to strengthen their squad to have higher aspirations from the 2025/26 Premier League season.

In their first campaign at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, the Toffees will be eyeing a top-half finish.

Wrexham eye Michael Keane transfer

Michael Keane is set to leave the Toffees at the end of the month, once his deal at the club runs out.

After serving the Blues for eight years, the English centre-back will be parting ways with them.

The 32-year-old will not be signing a new contract and will thus depart on a free transfer.

According to Sports Boom (23 June), Wrexham are looking to take advantage of this situation.

Having secured promotion to League One, the Welsh side are eyeing an “audacious bid” to sign Keane.

Everton need to stop allowing players to run down their contracts

Everton missed a financial opportunity by not selling Keane in January, as his contract nears its expiration.

With interest from MLS and the Serie A, a January transfer could have secured a fee for the 32-year-old defender, originally signed for £25million in 2017.

Instead, Keane will leave for free, adding to Everton’s history of letting valuable players like Dominic Calvert-Lewin run down contracts.

This pattern, highlighted by over £200m in free departures during the Farhad Moshiri era, underscores the need for better contract management.

Everton must prioritise timely sales or extensions to maximise returns and avoid further financial losses in future transfer windows.
