Manchester United's plan to bring Bryan Mbeumo to the club sooner rather than later has taken a huge boost following news of a second bid for the Brentford star.

After scoring 20 Premier League goals last term, Mbeumo has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford. United are aiming to make the Cameroon international signing number two of the transfer window after Matheus Cunha's £62.5million release clause was triggered.

United saw their opening bid worth £45m plus £10m in add-ons at the start of the month rejected. It's understood that Mbeumo's preference is to move to United over Tottenham with an agreement with Brentford yet to be finalised.

On Monday, The Evening Standard reported that the Bees have made it crystal clear that they want the bulk of the fee paid up front. Talk of a new bid has now been seconded with Ben Jacobs and Alex Crook claiming they have submitted an offer of over £60m.

The Londoners want to receive a hefty fee up front rather than allowing their talisman to leave on a payment plan that sees United purchase Mbeumo across a number of instalments.

United's need to remain compliant with financial rules means Brentford's stance could make a deal difficult to conduct. Initially, United wanted to pay Cunha's release clause over five years before agreeing to Wolves' terms of three instalments over two seasons.

It could open the door for Tottenham and Thomas Frank. Spurs have been linked with reuniting Mbeumo with Frank after he left the Gtech Community Stadium for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this month. Having beaten United in the Europa League to qualify for the Champions League, Spurs are in a much better position to meet Brentford's conditions.

However, news of United's bid would point towards Amorim's team being prepared to meet the terms laid out by Brentford to get Mbeumo through the door. It remains to be seen whether the Bees will accept the new proposal.
