Oh no: Worrying update has now emerged over future of “composed” Liverpool hero

**Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate is said to be “disappointed” about the contract off sent his way by the club, in a concerning new update.**

The Frenchman only has one year remaining on his current Reds deal, putting him in the same position as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah in the past 12 months.

It is far from ideal for Liverpool, especially with the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain linked with a move for him this summer.

Tying down the 26-year-old to a contract extension is vital for the Reds, but a new update from [_The Guardian_](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2025/jun/23/ibrahima-konate-disappointed-liverpool-contract-offer-talks-stall) suggests all is not well regarding him.

It is claimed that Konate is “understood to be disappointed by the structure of Liverpool’s offer, with his representatives believed to be pushing for a higher basic wage after the offer was heavily based on meeting certain performance targets.”

For that reason, there appears to be a risk that he could look for a fresh challenge this summer, should improved terms not come his way.

**Liverpool must keep hold of Konate**

--------------------------------------

Konate is simply too important a player to lose at this point in his career, having become a rock-solid centre-back partner for Virgil van Dijk over the years.

Granted, he ended last season in more patchy form, particularly after the Premier League title was sealed, but he is one of the best defenders in the division, being hailed by [Garth Crooks](https://www.caughtoffside.com/2023/12/26/liverpool-news-ibrahima-konate-praised-by-bbc-pundit/) in the past.

_“It has taken the Frenchman some time to settle down at Anfield and find some real consistency. Against Arsenal, however, the Liverpool central defender had the best game I have seen him have for some time._

_“Konate also seems more composed on the ball these days and less prone to make rash tackles, especially when the striker has his back to goal.”_

In fairness to Konate, he deserves to be recognised for his performances with a big deal, so if he doesn’t feel wanted, the club may have to act.

Losing him this summer would be negligent by Liverpool, especially as his prime years could now be approaching, and he will hopefully decide that his long-term future still belongs at Anfield.
