Browns Urged to Consider Bizarre Trade Target

The 2025 NFL season is right around the corner and training camp will begin next month. For the Cleveland Browns, there are huge questions entering the upcoming campaign.

Obviously, the biggest question comes at the quarterback position. There is no clear starting quarterback for Week 1 right now and four players are competing for the job. Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Shedeur Sanders, and Dillon Gabriel are the candidates for the starting job.

Following that question, there are concerns about the weapons whoever ends up being the starter will have to work with.

It was surprising to see the Browns pass on taking a wide receiver in the 2025 NFL Draft. They did sign Diontae Johnson, but the future is murky.

At tight end, David Njoku is entering the final year of his contract. Harold Fannin Jr. was selected in the draft and could become a long-term weapon for Cleveland, but a new idea has the Browns linked as a possible suitor for a bizarre trade target.

Bleacher Report analyst Kristopher Knox has named Cleveland as a potential trade destination for Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts.

"The Cleveland Browns may also want to kick the tires on Pitts," Knox wrote. "They've shown a willingness to add promising players who have underwhelmed before — they traded for Jerry Jeudy last offseason — and could view Pitts as a potential long-term contributor. Cleveland did just draft Harold Fannin Jr. in Round 3, but David Njoku is entering the final year of his contract."

Pitts was originally drafted by the Falcons with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He was expected to become a superstar in Atlanta.

Unfortunately, that has not been the case. He has dealt with some injury issues and has been unable to live up to the hype.

Through his first 61 career games in four years, Pitts has caught 196 total passes for 2,651 yards and 10 touchdowns. Clearly, that isn't what was expected from him.

At 24 years old, perhaps a change of scenery could help Pitts get back on track. He would be able to team up with Fannin long-term and provide a good one-two punch at the tight end position.

While it's possible that Pitts could live up to his potential with the Browns, it's also possible that he'll continue playing below expectations. There is no need for Cleveland to make a move at tight end. It just doesn't make sense right now.

Nothing can be counted out, but the idea of a trade for Pitts simply seems bizarre for the Browns at this point.
