The Jacksonville Jaguars officially got a deal done with former Colorado superstar and 2024 Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter.
The No. 2 overall pick signed a four-year, $46.6 million rookie contract that includes the standard fifth-year team option. This deal is unprecedented, not just in size, but in context — we’ve never seen a two-way star like Travis enter the league with this kind of value from day one, but Hunter’s case is unique.
He’s the first true two-way player of this caliber to be drafted, and Jacksonville didn’t just land him by luck — they traded up to the second pick specifically to get him. To understand the scale of this contract, look at last year’s No. 2 pick: Jayden Daniels. Daniels signed for $37.8 million before winning Offensive Rookie of the Year. Hunter just signed for nearly $9 million more than that, despite quarterback contracts typically tending to be larger. What raised eyebrows, though, is that Hunter’s contract is fully guaranteed. Hunter will earn about $8.5 million in year one, with the annual payout rising gradually. The average cap hit is around $11.7 million per year, though the structure is back-loaded, as the Jaguars still have sizable payments upcoming for players like Trevor Lawrence and Travon Walker.
