Pete Carroll Reveals Raiders Considered Veteran QB In Free Agency

For years, Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson led the Seattle Seahawks to contention.

They won a Super Bowl together, and they could’ve won two if Carroll had chosen to give the ball to Marshawn Lynch instead of trusting his quarterback.

However, their relationship had reportedly become estranged over time.

Even so, Carroll admittedly considered a reunion with his former Super Bowl-winning mate.

In a recent appearance on Lynch’s podcast, he revealed that there were some talks about a potential reunion with Wilson:

“With [Russell Wilson] coming up in free agency, we needed a quarterback. So there was conversation in that short amount of time, before we got Geno [Smith] that, who knows? There could be a shot,” Carroll said.

Multiple reports stated that Wilson resented Carroll because he wasn’t involved in the offensive game plan.

The Seahawks ultimately sided with their legendary head coach, trading Wilson to the Denver Broncos for a massive haul of picks and players.

Drew Lock seemed to be in the lead to replace him before Geno Smith shockingly beat him for the job in training camp, and he never looked back.

Smith was a late bloomer and eventually earned himself a big payday in Seattle.

But with Carroll no longer calling the shots and the team looking to go in a different direction, the timing was perfect for a reunion with his former coach, this time in Sin City.

Now, Carroll and Smith will look to replicate what Carroll and Wilson did in Seattle, although it will be much easier said than done.
