Jalen Hurts Praised For Uplifting An Eagles Star Through Uncertainty

Jalen Hurts nearly lost one of his most consistent pass-catchers during the 2025 NFL offseason. Dallas Goedert was one of a handful of Eagles rumored to be on the way out, despite being under contract for next season.

The business side of the game almost caused Goedert to change teams for the first time in his career. The Eagles ultimately decided it was not time to move on, and Jalen Hurts helped the tight end through the process.

"He didn't really recruit me back, but he made me feel like I was an important part of the team," Dallas Goedert said of Jalen Hurts, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I was important to him, and that was obviously a really good feeling."

Being the franchise quarterback of the Eagles, Hurts' opinion on personnel likely holds more weight than anybody on the roster, especially when it comes to the offensive side of the ball.

If the Eagles want to move on from a player, and Hurts isn't all-in on the decision, they better think twice. That's not to say that Hurts knocked on Howie Roseman's door and demanded him to keep Goedert on board, but it's apparent there might've been some level of influence from the franchise passer.

For Goedert, he feels fortunate to continue working on his on-field relationship with the Super Bowl MVP.

"The connection that we have, being able to play with him ever since he became a starter, and I feel like we just grow as a duo each year," Goedert added. "I've got so much confidence in him, and I think that's reciprocated the other way, too. Playing with a quarterback that you're comfortable with was also important to me. Someone that values you just makes that even better."

When the Eagles spent a second-round pick on Dallas Goedert in 2018, it was clear he was coming in to be Zach Ertz's successor. During his first season, Goedert appeared in 16 games, catching 33 passes for 334 yards and four touchdowns. By year two, Goedert crossed the 600-yard mark and reached the endzone five times.

Jalen Hurts stepped foot in the building as a second-rounder in 2020. That year, the Eagles started with Carson Wentz under center before transitioning to Hurts. Goedert appeared in just 11 games, racking up 524 yards and three touchdowns. He was a major help to Hurts amid the young quarterback's first full season under center.

During Hurts' 2021 season, Goedert accounted for a career-high 830 yards. He scored four touchdowns.

The 2024 season didn't treat Goedert too well at first, considering he played in just 10 games. The veteran tight end battled a hamstring injury early on, then eventually dealt with a knee-related setback, which concluded his regular season early.

Once Goedert returned for the playoffs, he was a major contributor. Across four games, Goedert caught 17 passes for 215 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown against the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card round was one of the Eagles' key plays of their Super Bowl run.

At this point, Goedert's days in Philadelphia seem limited. For now, the 30-year-old tight end will remain in the midnight green, as the Eagles look to defend their title
