SILSDEN AFC begin their pre-season away to Barnoldswick Town on Tuesday, July 8, but two days prior, they are hosting a special match.
The Cobbydalers’ Regal Interiors Stadium is the venue for Bradford City Legends versus Leeds United Legends, in what is now becoming annual event.
The game on Sunday, July 6 is in aid of former Bantams player Allan Gilliver’s chosen dementia charities.
Striker Allan had two spells at City during the 1970s, then spent his later years in football performing a variety of roles at the club, including groundsman and commercial manager, before retiring in 2007.
Sadly, Allan discovered he had dementia in 2013, but he is leaving a lasting legacy, with fundraising matches and memory walks being created in the aftermath of his diagnosis, raising thousands of pounds for charities like the Alzheimer’s Society.
Allan, who turned 80 last August, is as big a football fan as they come, and likes to attend the Legends matches in his honour as much as he can.
