Liverpool might be able to recoup some of the £146 million splashed out on Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, courtesy of Saudi Arabian team Al-Hilal.

Theo Hernandez is reportedly on the brink of a move to the Pro League runners-up from AC Milan.

Hernandez's potential transfer to the Middle East could indirectly facilitate Liverpool's sale of Andy Robertson to Atletico Madrid. The Reds' left-back is poised to conclude his successful seven-year stint at Anfield and is likely to relocate to the Spanish capital. Atletico are widely rumoured to be mulling over a £5m acquisition of the Scotland international, but they had also been linked with Hernandez.

However, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the 27 year old is nearing a move to Al-Hilal. This could expedite Atletico's pursuit of Robertson, which could provide Liverpool with a financial windfall.

Atletico had also been associated with Aston Villa full-back Lucas Digne. However, the La Liga side are said to have baulked at the £10m price tag for a player with only a year left on his contract.

Robertson was expected to slide down the pecking order at Anfield next season. The imminent £40m arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth would have seen the Scot's playing time curtailed.

Liverpool are eager to shift some peripheral players following a hefty summer spending spree that has further bolstered Arne Slot's Premier League title-winning squad. The sales of Robertson and Jarell Quansah, who is reportedly heading to Bayer Leverkusen, will net the Reds around £40m.

With only a year left on his contract and no signs of an extension, Robertson could have departed for free in a year's time. Accepting £5m for the 32 year old allows Liverpool to recoup a respectable sum, reports the Express.

Quansah, Harvey Elliott and Darwin Nunez are all rumoured to be on their way out. The Times reports that Ibrahima Konate, who is believed to be attracting interest from Real Madrid, has put talks over a new contract on hold.

Meanwhile, Liverpool's expenditure shows no signs of slowing down. Kerkez is poised to be their third senior signing of the window, following Wirtz and Frimpong.

A centre-back is likely to be next on the agenda, with Marc Guehi thought to be high on the club's wish list.

A new striker can't be ruled out either. Liverpool have been tentatively linked with Alexander Isak and Julian Alvarez, but both deals could prove tricky to finalise ahead of the 2025-26 season.
