International Cherries set for knockouts in summer tournaments: Round up

The Concacaf Gold Cup continues in North America, while Alex Scott is set for a semifinal for the Young Lions.

Julian Araujo and his Mexican teammates have reached the quarterfinals.

But Araujo is yet to make an appearance, not coming off the bench against the Dominican Republic and not involved in the squad for either games against Suriname or Costa Rica.

Adams was not included in the squad for the opening game of the tournament as the US thrashed Trinidad and Tobago 5-0.

But he came off the bench as the Stars and Stripes defeated Saudi Arabia 1-0, playing 28 minutes in the Group D clash.

And Adams started the final group game as the US went through to the final eight unbeaten with a 2-1 win over Haiti.

Canada will be hoping to secure their spot in the quarterfinals and are in the box seat to do so ahead of their final Group B match in the early hours on Wednesday, UK time.

Now-Preston North End loanee Daniel Jebbison was an unused substitute in both games for Canada so far, as they went to a 6-0 victory over Honduras and drew 1-1 with Curacao after an agonising 90+4th minute equaliser.

Over in Slovakia, Scott has played an important role as the England U21s have reached the semifinals of the competition.

The defending champions progressed through the group stage despite a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Germany, who have also reached the semifinals.

[Scott scored his first goal for the Young Lions in that game,](https://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/25251540.alex-scott-scores-first-goal-england-u21s-germany-defeat/) though, and then started in the quarterfinal against Spain.

Lee Carsley’s side made a fast start and led 2-0 after 15 minutes thanks to goals from James McAtee and Harvey Elliott, after Spain weren’t given a penalty following a VAR check.

Javi Guerra got a goal back before half time from the penalty spot, and, after Scott was replaced in the 52nd minute, England secured their spot in the final four as Elliot Anderson stroked home a spot kick to seal a 3-1 win.

England will face the Netherlands in the semifinals on Wednesday, with kick off at the National Football Stadium in Bratislava at 5pm.
