While focus on the pitch for Chelsea and head coach Enzo Maresca may be on the Club World Cup, work continues in the background on potential summer transfer deals.
The Blues have already completed deals for Liam Delap, Dario Essugo and Mamadou Sarr this summer. Willian Estevao and Kendy Paez are both also set to join up with the club this summer.
The last few transfer windows have been busy for Chelsea with lots of incomings and outgoings from the club. It seems like it will be no different this time around - especially with Champions League football returning to Stamford Bridge.
So, we have taken a look at a couple of the latest stories doing the rounds at Chelsea and also given our own thoughts.
Swap deal ‘weighed up’
Chelsea are weighing up a deal with Manchester United involving Christopher Nkunku and Alejandro Garnacho, according to the Telegraph .
Both players are expected to leave their respective clubs this summer, with Chelsea showing an interest in Garnacho in the January window. Nkunku has also been linked with a move to Man United.
The report says that while there is no expectation of a swap deal, two separate transfers that see the two players move in opposite directions is a possibility. However, direct talks are yet to be held between the two clubs.
FL says : Deals that see Garnacho sign for Chelsea and Nkunku sign for United could be an ideal solution for all parties involved. Both players are on the lookout for a new club and could thrive in new environments.
The sort of money involved in either deal is something that will have to be negotiated between the two clubs. But if that can be sorted, then it may be a deal that works.
Jamie Gittens meeting
The same report from the Telegraph also says that despite the interest in Garnacho, Chelsea still retain their interest in Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens.
Talks between the two clubs over a deal are said to be ongoing, with a face-to-face meeting scheduled to talk about a potential deal. The two clubs are expected to meet while they are both over in America for the Club World Cup.
Gittens is part of the Dortmund squad for the tournament, despite Chelsea’s attempts to complete a deal before the deadline.
The Blues saw a £42 million bid turned down by Dortmund earlier this month.
FL says : The ongoing ban from football for Mykhailo Mudryk and talk over the future of Noni Madueke means that Chelsea probably do need more reinforcements at left wing, even if a deal for Garnacho is completed.
Gittens is keen on the move, and with Champions League football back at Stamford Bridge next season, Enzo Maresca will need more depth to his squad to cope with the rigours of both that and the Premier League.
