Luckhurst: Bryan Mbeumo relative encouraging Manchester United amid second bid

Bryan Mbeumo wants to join Man United and there is every chance the deal could get done before their pre-season tour.

Manchester United have submitted a second offer in excess of £60million for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.

United had an opening offer totalling £55m rejected earlier this month but have remained confident of concluding a deal for the 26-year-old.

Mbeumo wants to join United, despite firm interest from Tottenham Hotspur since they appointed his former Brentford coach Thomas Frank as Ange Postecoglou's replacement.

United goalkeeper Andre Onana has lobbied his international teammate to move to Manchester and one of Mbeumo's close relatives is also a United fan, which is believed to have further emboldened United.

Mbeumo scored 20 goals in 38 Premier League appearances last season and is out of contract next year, though Brentford have the option of a one-year extension.

United have identified Mbeumo as an ideal option to enhance their right-hand side. The club previously held discussions with the left-footed Sporting winger Geovany Quenda before he chose to join Chelsea.

Having not broken the £60m barrier for any of their five summer signings last year, United have already bought Matheus Cunha for £62.5m from Wolves and are prepared to pay a similar fee for Mbeumo.

Cunha scored 15 league goals last term and his release clause made it inevitable that Brentford would hold out for a similar fee.

United want to sign another forward, with Mbeumo regarded as more of a multi-functional option. The club intend to sign a new starting striker.

United players return for pre-season training on July 7 and the squad fly out to Chicago for their three-match pre-season tour of the United States on July 22.
