Newcastle United closing in on transfer as two-year scouting mission draws to a conclusion

A general view during the Premier League match between Newcastle United FC and Everton FC at St James' Park.

Newcastle United have been linked with several players over the transfer window so far.

Newcastle United are preparing for the 2025/26 season, which will include football back at .

While the club have been linked with several players, there is yet to be any new faces for the first team. The club have missed out on signing striker Liam Delap, who has completed a move to Chelsea, while Bryan Mbeumo looks to be heading to Manchester United.

Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford remains the number one goalkeeper target, with Newcastle also showing interest in the likes of Joao Pedro and Anthony Elanga.

There has been talk over possible departures too. Liverpool are reported to be keen on Alexander Isak, although the striker is set for transfer talks at St James’ Park.

With the transfer window well underway, we’ve taken a look at some of the latest stories doing the rounds, and also given our thoughts.

Forward transfer ‘moving closer’

are ‘moving closer’ to completing the signing of 18-year-old forward Park Seung-soo, according to .

The South Korean can play as either a left winger or at centre forward and is very highly rated, having previously had trials with Bayern Munich.

He currently plays for South Korean second-tier side Suwon Bluewings. The report says that a deal that will see him join Newcastle is progressing.

The teenager is seen as one for the future, in a similar vein to Antonito Cordero who joined from Malaga earlier this summer.

ChronLive says: Completing deals for young talent from across the world is only a good thing for Newcastle. If they are able to bring Seung-soo to St James’ Park, then it will give him a chance to experience and adapt to English football.

The next step may be going out on loan before coming back and hopefully breaking into the first team. If it doesn’t work out, the deals are rarely too expensive.

Two-year transfer mission

Newcastle United have been linked with an interest in Atalanta centre-back Giorgio Scalvini, with reports suggesting that the club have been tracking the player for more than two years.

report that Newcastle have been watching the defender for some time, but are slightly concerned about his injury status. The 21-year-old has been restricted to just eight appearances in the season just gone due to an ACL injury and then a shoulder issue.

However, it is said that the club maintain their interest and view the player as having the potential to be one of the best in the years to come.

ChronLive says: Newcastle are right to show some concern over Scalvini’s injury-hit season, but they will have to make a decision on whether or not to move for the defender soon. The club are said to have competition from both Inter Milan and Juventus.

All teams could however decide to delay any potential move until January to let the player prove his fitness in the first half of the new season. Both options represent a risk in their own way, with the price for the player likely to go up in the January window.
