Manchester United are in the market for a number of positions this summer

Manchester United have submitted a fresh proposal to Brentford for forward Bryan Mbeumo, with the second offer totalling more than £60m as the Red Devils look to meet the Bees demands for one of their star players.

United have now returned with an offer more suitable to the Bees’ demands. The West London club wanted a fee similar to what United paid for Matheus Cunha, who joined the Red Devils after a £62.5m release clause was triggered in his Wolves contract.

Talks are set to continue this week as United aim to get a deal over the line for a player who scored 20 goals and provided seven assists in the Premier League last season.

Man Utd fresh bid for Bryan Mbeumo could be enough to seal deal

Depending on the structure of the deal, the offer should be enough to meet Brentford’s demands. If the bid is over £60m it will be very close, if not more, than what United paid for Cunha.

The former Sporting CP boss will need to seriously improve from last campaign and adding proven Premier League forwards is a big step in resolving United’s lack of goals.

Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha go a long way to adding goals

Mbeumo has scored 70 goals and provided 51 assists in 242 games for Brentford since moving to England. That equals a goal contribution every other game - something the Red Devils have been crying out for.

Amorim’s side scored just 44 goals in 37 Premier League games last term. Out of the teams to survive last season, only Everton had a worse return. Speaking last week, former United defender Rio Ferdinand branded Mbeumo’s goal contributions as “ridiculous”.

He said: “His stats over the last three seasons in the Premier League are up there, by the way. Goals and assists, goal chances, ridiculous! Again, another proven Premier League player.”

With Cunha scoring 15 times and Mbeumo netting 20 goals last term, the pair will give the Red Devils the attacking threat they have severely lacked within the last 12 months. United are still in the market for a striker but signing two prolific attacking midfielders is a big step forward.
