Mikel Arteta has reportedly told Arsenal’s hierarchy that he wants Viktor Gyokeres to be part of the squad that travels to Asia for pre-season this summer, adding urgency to the club’s pursuit of the prolific Sporting CP striker.
According to Correio da Manhã, Arteta is keen to integrate his top striker target early, ensuring Gyokeres is up to speed ahead of a challenging start to the Premier League campaign which includes meetings with Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Newcastle United in the first six fixtures.

Sporting director Andrea Berta has been in talks with both Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko, but recent reports suggest Sesko’s wage demands have complicated that deal. That has elevated Gyokeres to the top of Arsenal’s shortlist, with the player himself said to be expecting a move to North London.
Arsenal are preparing a second offer, expected to come in at just under €70 million, as they look to close the gap with Sporting CP’s valuation. Gyökeres is reportedly frustrated with the Portuguese club after they withdrew from a previous gentleman’s agreement made with his representatives.

Arteta believes having Gyokeres on board for the pre-season tour of Asia is vital, not just for fitness and integration, but also to trial the Swede in high-profile friendlies and ensure he is tactically aligned for competitive action.
Given the intensity of Arsenal’s opening schedule, the manager wants his leading No. 9 signed and settled before the real action begins. The pressure is now firmly on Berta to deliver the deal.
