Newcastle United have been linked with Atalanta and Italy defender Giorgio Scalvini.
Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini previously hinted at wanting a Premier League move as Newcastle United speculation ramps up.
Reputable sources in Italy claim the Magpies want the 21-year-old this summer. Scalvini has only played a handful of appearances since returning from an ACL injury at the back end of last year.
The talented defender - who already has eight caps for Italy - spent 18 months on the sidelines with a serious knee problem. When Scalvini returned, he lasted just six appearances before suffering a shoulder injury that ruled him out for three months.
Newcastle United can repeat Tino Livramento trick
Newcastle have a history of signing young, talented players fresh off an ACL injury. Toon chiefs took a punt on Tino Livramento just two games after he spent a year on the sidelines at Southampton.
That risk paid off, with the 22-year-old making a full recovery and asserting himself as a key performer on Tyneside. An approach for Scalvini is now under consideration as the Magpies prepare for life without Fabian Schar.
The Swiss defender penned a recent one-year extension but turns 34 in December and Newcastle are looking for a younger centre-back option. Dan Burn celebrated his 33rd birthday last month, while Sven Botman continues to battle injury niggles.
Giorgio Scalvini on Premier League move
Speaking two years ago, Atalanta sensation Scalvini hinted at being open to a Premier League move. He said: “I honestly don’t know, I just know that I have to do my best for Atalanta, right now that’s my only priority.
“I would be very happy with either, but I don’t really know exactly what my future holds. All I know is that if I work hard now I can build that future, and so my focus remains here (at Atalanta).”

Eddie Howe on Tino Livramento injury
After Livramento completed his debut campaign at St James’ Park, Eddie Howe spoke about how he gradually eased him into life at Newcastle. He said 12 months ago: "I actually think (this season) has been the ideal introduction to his return from injury because not only did he have a serious knee injury but he had a hamstring injury just after that which kept him out.
“We needed to nurse him, manage him and look after him. How this season's gone has probably been the ideal introduction back and I still think there's more to come.
“I don't think we've seen the very best of him yet. I really do believe in his potential and there's a very exciting future ahead of him hopefully."
